Greenhouse Delivery and Installation in California: What to Expect
Share
Buying the greenhouse is half the job. Getting it to your site and standing it up is the other half. Here is how delivery and installation work when you buy from us.
Delivery: our own truck
We deliver greenhouse kits on our own dedicated truck — not a freight broker, not a terminal pickup. The driver brings the kit to your site. What we need from you:
- A level building pad, graded and compacted before the truck arrives.
- Truck access — a clear path the truck can drive in and out on. Tell us in advance if access is tight and we will plan around it.
- Someone on site to receive the delivery and check the load against the packing list.
Smaller parts ship by UPS; large individual components may go by freight service. If you are near our warehouse in Phelan, California, local pickup is also an option.
Installation: your crew or ours
You have two choices:
DIY. Our kits are designed for assembly with common tools. The frame bolts together, the film goes on with wiggle wire and lock channel, and the manual walks through the sequence. Many buyers build with farm labor or a local contractor.
Our installation team. If you would rather have it done right and done fast, our professional team installs greenhouses for buyers. You get a standing house without pulling your crew off the crop.
What to prepare before installation day
- Permits. Check with your county before you build. Agricultural structures are often straightforward, but rules vary — this is on the buyer to confirm.
- Utilities. Plan where water and power reach the house. Fans, motors, and irrigation all need supply lines.
- Orientation. Long axis east-west is the common pick for even light; your site and prevailing wind may argue otherwise.
- Drainage. A greenhouse concentrates roof water at the drip line. Grade so water runs away from the house.
Scheduling
Delivery and installation scheduling depends on kit size, season, and our current backlog. Call early in your planning — not the week you want to plant.
What delivery day looks like
A day or two before, we confirm the delivery window with you. On the day:
- The truck arrives and parks where you directed — ideally right next to the pad.
- You (or your foreman) check the load against the packing list while the driver unloads. Count bundles, check for visible damage, note anything missing on the delivery receipt.
- Stage the bundles near the pad in build order: frame steel together, hardware boxes together, doors and end-wall parts together. A tidy site makes the build go twice as fast.
If anything is short or damaged, call us the same day at (630) 408-2201. We ship replacement parts fast because we are the factory — no waiting on a distributor.
The DIY build sequence
If our team is not building it, here is the order that works:
- Square and anchor. Lay out the footprint, square the corners (measure diagonals), and set the ground posts or anchors. Everything downstream depends on this being right.
- Raise the hoops. Stand the arches one by one, connecting purlins as you go. Two to four people handle this comfortably.
- End walls and doors. Frame the ends, hang the doors, make sure everything is plumb.
- Pull the film. Unroll the covering over the frame on a calm morning — wind is the enemy here. Fasten with wiggle wire and lock channel, working from one end to the other.
- Hardware and trim. Install roll-up sidewall cranks, vents, and baseboards. Then walk the whole house checking every connection.
Most crews finish a standard house in several days. Rushing the squaring step is the classic mistake — an out-of-square frame fights you at every step after.
After the house is up
Before you plant: run the ventilation, check the roll-up sides top to bottom, and hose down the film inside and out — construction dust cuts light. Stock spare wiggle wire, a roll of repair tape, and extra screws. And keep our number: (630) 408-2201 for parts, advice, or your next house.
